Barnes & Noble is a publicly traded corporation featured on the New York Stock Exchange. Founded in 1873, the company began as a printer and opened its very first store location in 1917. The store has grown to have more than 1300 locations while remaining headquartered in New York City to this day. Barnes & Noble is known as the largest retailer of books in the United States. At its website and brick and mortar stores, the retailer also sells magazines, newspapers from major cities, DVDs, Blu-Ray discs, games, novelties and music. The company also manufactures the Nook e-reader and distributes e-books for the product.
